The brief

To create a brand or organisation that introduces Singaporeans and tourists to something new about Singapore.

Overview

A conceptual organisation focusing on saving the migratory birds in Singapore. Migratory birds were chosen because I feel that Singaporeans do know about them but do not know the consequences of our actions on the environment, affecting the migratory birds that travel in. To help with the awareness, I created a website, a choose‑your‑own‑adventure book and merchandise focusing on the migratory birds and readers’ experiences if they were in a bird’s shoes.

The challenge

How might we help people understand what their actions mean for migratory birds?

From the data collected through the survey, I found that people lacked an understanding of the consequences of their actions, leading to the loss of migratory birds, because there is not enough awareness for them to take action.

The processStoryline and logo developmentI mapped the storyline out as branching scenes. Each scene shows a different path a bird could take, whether positive or negative. The logo also represents the migratory birds flying over the sky and sea.

The outcomeBooklet featuresThe booklet features six migratory birds that stop in Singapore before flying off again. Not every bird has a happy ending, so some birds die in the story. Red and blue arrows show readers which page to go to for the next scene. For the illustrations, the elements are simple and abstract, and to create expressions on the birds, punctuation marks are added.

Website featuresI wanted the landing page to wow visitors, so it shows a bird coming out of the bushes and looking at Singapore in amazement. On the merchandise page, birds are illustrated wearing clothes and a hover animation was added as a call‑to‑action, enticing users to click on it. A contact navigation bar was also added, allowing users to get in touch with the organisation.

Merchandise featuresThe merchandise uses the patterns and illustrations from the booklet, featuring the selected six birds as mascots for the organisation.

Colour paletteI chose colours that mimic nature, such as browns and greens and hints of monochromatic black and white for elements I wanted to stand out.
